Into the Blue

The Blue Mountains World Heritage Interpretive Centre

The Blue Mountains World Heritage Cultural Centre’s landmark permanent exhibition ‘Into The Blue’
showcases the region’s unique biodiversity and rich Aboriginal and European history and culture.

Through a year-long process of intense community consultation, a multitude of stories were researched and collected from diverse groups. Representatives from the six Aboriginal language groups, birdwatchers, academics, school children and local historians all shared their stories.

The project also required collaboration with the client and architects, including an assessment of the feasibility of a ticketed permanent exhibition and its placement in the new Cultural Centre. FRD’s role included community consultation, heritage architecture, conservation planning, architectural planning and brief writing, exhibition design, graphic design, multimedia production, content development, text writing, picture research, and installation management under a design and construct turnkey contract.

The project won a High Commendation, Installation Design award at the Australian Interior Design Awards, 2013.
